While the elections had not occurred, the recommended candidates who were not officially voted as officers, agreed to meet anyways in order to prepare for the transition into 2014. Dynasty Restaurant of Cupertino was being considered as a venue for the chapter installation celebration in December.

A good 2014 starts in 2013! Bam! Bam!
2014 President Mimi Wang makes another appointment to her team. Pat Hairston, 2008 Chapter President, referring Realtor, and owner of Platinum Catering, has accepted the position to be the By-Laws/Standing Rules Chairperson and Parliamentarian. Pat will also prepare the tax filings for the chapter, DOUBLE BAM!
A needle, teacups and Mimi the Money Magnet.
If anyone was flying overhead in Cupertino, Ca here in Silicon Valley, on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, you would have seen smokestacks coming out of the Century 21 M&M office off De Anza Blvd.Team 2014: (left to right) Laura Welch - President Elect, Mimi Wang - President, Matt Nguyen - Marketing and Membership Chair, Steven Diec - Treasurer, Judy Black - District Vice President, Thora Tam - Secretary
This day was the planning retreat for the 2014 Chapter Leadership Team and the ideas and camaraderie was in abundance.
This day was the planning retreat for the 2014 Chapter Leadership Team and the ideas and camaraderie was in abundance.
Knowing that you can only make a first impression once, past chapter presidents Anna Maria Valenzuela and Sheryl Martinez once again teamed up for the breakfast detail of the retreat. Anna Maria, the maker of lovely things and a tea enthusiast, set up a lovely area of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, orange juice, pastries, plus few of her teacups in her collection and of course a special tea blend fit for the meeting. Anna Maria admits later that she stayed up very late to make the precious place cards for the incoming officers just perfect. Nothing but excellence from this woman!
Matt Nguyen, the incoming chairperson of the membership and marketing committee declared, "We are moving the needle from good to great!" He proceeded to give us his vision of launching a video campaign to highlight Women's Council of Realtors and the members. He will be producing alongside with the assistance of Blake Cardoza of Success 4 Your Business. Matt's intention is to help begin building the video library of the membership for their own business use. This my friend, is just ONE of the benefits of being a member of Women's Council of REALTORS, Santa Clara Valley Chapter. (Winding up for the pitch…..wait for it….)

And lastly, always the most memorable, Ms. Mimi Wang.
As the team was discussing fundraising, ways and means, and sponsorship, by end of the discussion, Mimi was handed checks to support the chapter! Mimi the Money Magnet! Followed by another most memorable moment, incoming 2014 Treasurer Steven Diec firmly securing the check for the chapter's treasury away from Mimi's grasp.
Wait, actually, first there were photo ops with Mimi the Money Magnet to rub some of that magic off on newly appointed and incoming chairperson of ways and means (fundraising efforts) Anna Maria Valenzuela then the good Treasurer made safe the chapter income.

What is the difference in picture "A" from picture "B"?
Above depicts of what I would like to call, "The faces of commitment."
Every so often, someone will ask the question, "what is the value of being active in Women's Council of REALTORS?" Well my feeling, six years later of joining, is when you decide to fully commit to this organization, your growth in character, your growth in leadership skills, your exposure to highly intelligent and honorable people and business professionals, the value is actually , PRICELESS.
I was a reluctant leader back in 2009. I was pretty much resisting as much as possible to step up to being the figure head, spokesperson, and leader for this chapter. I do not seek to be in the spotlight, and moving into being a President of this chapter was all but out of the spotlight and scrutiny. Again, six years later, I have enjoyed the journey and with this experience, I am an even stronger and credible professional, and the belief I have in myself is backed by this nationally recognized organization cheering me on and advancing me forward.

Are you a crazy one?
So this morning, I am searching a catchy email subject line to compel the roughly 74-70% of our 600+ email database that do not open our emails, to open the email. But not just open and read, register and attend our first Monthly Lunch Program of 2014.
I remember the campaign Apple did a few years ago about "Think Different." I come across the "The Crazy Ones" video and one thing leads to another and I find one that pays tribute to Steve Jobs.
Steve Jobs, obviously a visionary, rule breaker, and rebel.
This completely ties in to the theme of our first program of the year. Bringing vision and creativity to our business plan.
Watch and if you wish to think like a crazy one, register and join us tomorrow.

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
"I know Frank"
I ran into Frank Oliver this morning at the Evergreen Marketing meeting and I went up to tell him how I love his "not on market" listings skills!
He tells me for 11 years he has been doing boot camp early in the morning, sometimes six times a week, and then he heads out to coffee. This is "his" time.
Not sure how we got on this topic but from this I did gather, Frank is in good health and takes care of HIM first.
I tell him how he always looks like he is having a good time and I rarely if ever see him in a suit and tie... but here he is making it happen in this business! He says it is about being goofy enough and having fun and one way or another, business happens.
I tell him how he is our "six degrees to Kevin Bacon" in our real estate world. He laughs and says, how about one degree to "I know Frank?"
I hope not, otherwise I am OUT of business!
By the way, below is his "not on market" flyer!

What happens at 2014 WCR State Meetings in SoCal.....
...can happen on stage
January 21, 2014 in San Diego, Ca, was the Installation of the State Officers at the luxurious Grand Hyatt Manchester Hotel. Preceding the installation was two days of information filled days of meetings with all the state chapters in the state. I was able to make a quick trip to attend and support all my friends going into 2014 state leadership. Love this organization.
District Vice Presidents with installing officer, Sherri Souza | Governors and installing officer, Jamie Saltman. |
Line officers with installing officer, Chris Kutzkey | State President, Heather Ozur with installing officer, Jo Kenney. |
...can happen in a photo booth!
At the 2014 California State Installation Celebration, the fun included a photo booth to mark our inner goofiness. This one is me and Mimi.
... can happen on the dance floor!
We took this one after shaking our groove thing on the dance floor. We need to teach Mimi the electric slide before the next state dance off.
... can happen on the 24th floor of the Hyatt Manchester, San Diego
Big thank you and shout out to our 2014 chapter DVP, Judy Black for taking me in for the night. She had an extra bed in her room and I was the lucky recipient of this cozy comfort and her sweet company! I arrived to attend the Installation without hotel reservations and by the grace of the Women's Council of REALTORS and the friends I have made up and down California, Judy Black showed me once again the value and benefit of being part of this organization.
